My Philosophy of Education

 My Philosophy of Education

Every teacher has her/his own philosophy of education. I think that some teachers will not agree with my own philosophy, but it might be a great one for others. Education is the process of receiving or giving systematic instructions.

Education has goals that must be conveyed to students for the sake of a good generation. First, we can talk about the social aim of education, where the student can meet new people. He gets to know his teachers and friends, and makes new friends for himself that make him more social. Second, we can talk about career aims, where the students when they finish their studies will work. Third, there is a cultural aim, by undergoing education, a child becomes civilized and cultured, also there are moral, intellectual and other aims.

There are a lot of methods of learning, some are good and others are bad. If I need to list the bad ones, I can talk about direct instructions, sensory learning and others. But in my opinion the best methods are flipped classrooms where it is an instructional strategy and a type of blended learning, which aims to increase student learning by having students complete readings at home. Also, we can talk about learning through exploring environments, reality, and lived and virtual experiences with tutorial support. Furthermore, customized and game based learning are such good methods.

The curriculum that the school I teach in is Al-Ahlia edition. Actually, it is a good edition, but I think that the curriculum in Lebanon is very big one. In my opinion the curriculum in Lebanon should be changed, and remove some padding from the syllabus.

Finally, my role in class is explaining well and in different ways, answering the questions that students have whenever they need to ask, preparing well before the class, being friendly, funny, lovable with students, because a student will not love the subject if he/she doesn't love the teacher. On the other hand, students should be well prepared, polite, calm, ask about things that he/she doesn't understand, and don’t cheat.

What can we do now that we were not able to do a year ago?

Lots of things we are able to do it this year, we were not able to do a year ago, especially in COVID 19 and online classes. In attending classes, the teacher is able to see the students at school face to face, in distance education, it is possible that the student opens an online class and does not follow up with the teacher, but in face to face classes, if the student is not integrated, the teacher will pay attention, and this thing makes the attendance good. Also, the teacher can give a greater amount of the curriculum. Furthermore, because of the weak internet and electricity in Lebanon, there are students who cannot attend online classes, but in school, we do not need the Internet and electricity somewhat.

But we must not forget the merits and progress of technology. Without it, science would have stopped and schools would have stopped explaining lessons. We also do not forget the great efforts of professors and students in the pursuit of distance education. There are several methods and programs that we can use for distance learning, most notably: Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Great Learning, Domestika, and others..

Challenges faced when teaching online

In our society and in our beloved country Lebanon, nothing is secure or available. That is why there is a problem that we always face during teaching or learning through online, which is electricity and the internet. There is also a problem with the interaction of students. There are students who do not interact and do not participate online. Here comes the role of the teacher by encouraging students and interacting with them. And we should not forget that parents should follow up their children while online. Also, during online there are students who cheat in the exams.

Distance learning has its share of challenges and problems, teaching and training about some of the problems related to some problems, as well as ideas for a learning experience for all students.

Some of the problems are: lack of support in the issue of distance learning, feelings of isolation, discipline problem in an e-learning case, the problem of technology, teacher not attending the class, low level of distance learning institutes, the problem of inertia imposed by university regulations.

problems while working online

The teacher must take care of the students, where they are surrounded by technology at school. They carry phones or even a laptop to do homework, and the internet is available to students. Here, the teacher's role lies in securing an appropriate atmosphere, protecting students and educating them by using the internet safety. Thus, the teacher must understand the meaning of online safety, and learn about the laws of the Internet to protect the students that she will teach. Here the teacher must communicate with the parents in order to monitor and follow up their children for protection.
The Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) went into place in December 2000. It states that no school or library can receive E-rate discounts for internet access unless the school/library certifies it is enforcing an internet safety policy. The internet policy must include the use of filtering or blocking technology and protect against access to graphics that are obscene, include child pornography or are harmful to minors.

Tools that can be used in online assessment

In our society today, technology and online education have dominated school and attendance education. Therefore, many and varied methods of distance education have been invented. one of the most important of these methods is Google Forms, and Google Classroom, those who are instead of the notebook and the agenda for the student, and in this matter, he will always have these options, and the recordings for the lessons will always be available in the event that the classes are not attended. Also the teacher can use Google Slides, and Google Sheets for explanation and for testing them also. In addition for, quizzes, assignments, final projects, midterm papers and exams using Socrative - quizzes and questions with real-time grading, Mentimeter, Poll Everywhere, Kahoot -game-based assessment tool, Quizalize, Quizlet, and many other applications.

The Article

An education agency is an organisation responsible for supervising educational services for students in a particular environment.there are two types of agencies of education which are formal and non formal. Agencies are also classified as active or passive. Choosing the place that a student would like to study in, might be one of the hardest discussions he could make. Students should choose the best private institution when planning to study abroad, so many students get help from agencies of education. Agencies implies having the ability and the well to positively influence one’s own life and the world around them.

Starting with social media, students need to develop social agencies, which involves them to understand the rights and the responsibilities related to the society in which they live. The social media including Instagram, you tube, twitter, whats app, Facebook, and the most important are video games, which affects their lives and their thinking and behavior, especially if it was not supervised by parents. Also, it promotes self directed learning which prepares students to search for answers and make decisions independently. For example, a grade five student sits alone in his room, making his parents believe that he is studying. Meanwhile he is playing video games, and watching immoral videos, this affects his concentration, his level at school, and leads him to fail in his exams. On the other hand, a grade seven student that has a school project, enters social media and takes good information to help him do his project.

Continuing with the Schools, a society creates a suitable environment in the school, so as to bring about various types of development of the learner physically, morally, socially, and culturally. Thus making the individual a suitable person for society. In the last few years, the school has had a big effect due to the long time that students stay at it. For example, a student spends 7 hours from his day in the school, while he is sleeping 12 hours, so he is seeing his parents only 5 hours a day, so he is spending time in school with his teachers and friends more than their parents. Take an example: a student raised his hands twice at home, and when his family asked him why do you do that, he said that the teacher at the school asked us during the period to do this in order to continue our lesson actively and now I felt tired and did this. From here we conclude that the student is affected by the school and transfers what is happening to his parents. Also, when the student arrives home, he begins to tell his family about the school’s atmosphere.

Add to that the friendly atmosphere, a student is affected by his friends very much, the student is influenced by his school friends and in the neighborhood very much. For example, a student spoke inappropriate words and when asked who taught you this, he may be answered by his friends, and it is possible that he says the words without thinking about its meaning and without knowing its meaning.

Also the family has a big effect on the student, where the student is afraid from his family and from punishment, especially from depriving him of something he loves. Also, some students love their parents and imitate them and say that the father or mother is their ideal. For example, there are some students in the school who do not riot in class for fear of telling their father for fear of punishment, and some students say that they will become doctors, for example, out of love for their families because their father or mother is a doctor.

In addition to the religion, students are also affected by the religion, because some families are affected by the religion such as the mosque or the church. For example, a grade five student in my class did not attend the national education subject, because they thought that this subject was contrary to their religious belief.

As a conclusion, i think that the most agency one is the social media in nowadays because all the students are engaged to the social media and all the students have tablets and phones, then the school because they spend time in it more than in the home, then their friends, their parents and the last is the religion.
